Golden Wave Studio is officially closing its doors.
As much as I have loved my time in California, the time has come to an end. In June, I will be moving myself and my business to Washington State, on the Olympic Peninsula.
A Few Final Words
After many months of consideration, the decision has been made to move my little family out of California. I was born and raised in California and it doesn't feel quite real to be leaving. However, here we are. It's time for a new adventure. The hardest part of leaving San Diego, by far, is leaving you all. You have meant the world to me. Some of you have been with me since I was very first licensed, working in Little Italy. Many of you met me while I worked out of Banker's Hill, and still more of you began your journey with me at Golden Wave Studio here in North County. Some of you have flown in to see me from San Francisco; others have driven from Chula Vista, Orange County, and Hollywood. You have supported me through my journey from receptionist to salon owner, a global pandemic and three mandatory shutdowns, the awkward jitters of emerging from months of isolation, and all of your own trials and tribulations. The walls of my studio have housed endless conversations—and, occasionally, a measure of comfortable quiet. Together we have cheered, vented, wept, dreamed, laughed, and waxed poetic over things close to our hearts. These memories I will forever hold dear. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support and patronage over the years.
Now, on to business. My last day taking clients at Golden Wave Studio is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th. I am planning to keep my regular working days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday). Working four days a week allows me to be the best artist I can be, and I am inflexible on compromising the quality of my work by overbooking myself. As of right now, my Saturdays over the next month are almost completely booked out. I know Saturdays are by far my most requested day of the week. If this lack of weekend availability creates a demand for Friday appointments, I am open to closing off certain Thursdays or Wednesdays to accommodate that demand. However, as this type of planning takes time, please let your requests be known as soon as possible. I am happy to be flexible with scheduling, so long as it does not compromise the quality of my work at the studio. I would not have your final session with me fall short of expectation.
For those of you who are interested in picking up a final round of products before the studio's closing, I am beginning to track product requests. This includes regularly stocked retail of Original & Mineral and OWAY, specialty selections that are generally custom-ordered, backbar-sized options, and professional-quality curling irons, blow dryers, flat irons, clips, and hairbrushes. A pick-up day will be scheduled during the first week of June, tentatively in an open-house style. This will also serve as an opportunity to bid a fond farewell to Golden Wave Studio—a Grand Closing Party, if you will. COVID-related precautions will be of course be taken into consideration, but I have yet to pen down official details. Please reach out if you have any questions. All product requests must be submitted to me by no later than Wednesday, May 26th.
As far as the future goes, I am incredibly excited to see what this new chapter of my life holds. Who knows—perhaps my next low-toxin salon will find its brick-and-mortar home on the coastline of the Pacific Northwest. While that may be a while off, I would be absolutely thrilled to see you one day in Washington. I have yet to settle on a salon home, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if you are ever in the area. My new town is about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Seattle—just an iconic ferry ride and an (admittedly, quite gorgeous) drive away.
I find myself rather lost for words as I end this thoroughly bittersweet announcement. Saying goodbye to a business and a clientele that has brought such joy and purpose to my life is, suffice to say, difficult. As tumultuous as 2020 was, I will forever be thankful that I took a chance on opening the doors to Golden Wave Studio. It's been a year and a half that I won't soon forget.
With all my warmth, thank you. You will be greatly missed.

If you want to keep in touch with me while I'm living and working in Washington, you can subscribe to my blog or stay up to date with me on my brand new Instagram page, @ellery.hatfield (linked below). I'm planning to keep my same mobile number, so feel free to reach out for whatever you need—color formula notes, San Diego salon recommendations, product shopping links, etc. I hope to hear from you in the future! Bye for now.
P.S. I've included a list of helpful links at the bottom of the page: my appointment booking link, new Instagram page, Yelp page (reviews are always appreciated, even once I've moved to WA!), and shopping links for both what I have retailed at Golden Wave Studio and for the ultra-clean botanical line, REVERIE.
